Exceeept, you know, I can't, cause this is super amazing. My favorite part about this (aside from Sherlock freaking out because I LOVE SHERLOCK FREAKING OUT) is JOHN. There's such a subtleness to his characterization here. Like John being SMUG in one sentence, and just the way he speaks. It's not QUITE right and it's even a bit unnerving, because it's obviously Sherlock's version of John. It's an approximation of who John is, essentially just him doing what Sherlock needs him to do at that moment. I've told you this before, but I can't say it enough: I just LOVE that. It's completely amazing, and more than a little heartbreaking, because it's a constant reminder that this John isn't the real one.
I ADORE John in this, what he does for Sherlock. Convincing him to not use the drugs, guiding him to the evidence Sherlock (thinks he) needs. It's perfect. Us Sherlocks ain't much without our Johns. JOOOOOOHN. ;_; <3
Also, THIS: “Not afraid, not afraid, not afraid,” he repeats over and over, the couple before him moving quickly to the other side of the street. Sherlock throws his head back and yells, “Why must I even say this!” *dies a thousand deaths* This is just perfection. Sherlock is so afraid of being afraid, so afraid of not being able to function. He's terrified of the idea that John's death might be affecting him, and it shows. Sherlock's freaking out, trying to act the same, but the cracks in his facade are easy to see, especially in the scene with Mycroft and Lestrade. I love Sherlock in that scene, how unhinged he is, how close to breaking he is without ACTUALLY breaking (that part will come later, and I can't wait to read that).
